History of India: Age Classification
Pre-historic India
Prehistoric India dates to early stone age, probably c. 500,000 BCE or before. It counts up to c. 7600 BCE when the copper and Bronze age started. Madrasian and Soanian cultures originate from the Pre-historic India.
Ancient India
Ancient India started from the Neolithic or late stone age, from c. 7500 BCE. The period covers the era of Indus valley and Vedic civilization as well. History of Ancient India extends up to demise of Nanda dynasty up to 322 BCE.
Classical India
Classical Indian history starts from the reign of Maurya dynasty from 322 BCE. The Shunga, Kanva, Kushan and Satvahana dynasties have ruled during this era up to the reign of Gupta dynasty.
Medieval India
Medieval India starts from the reign of Chalukya dynasty from 543 CE. Later Chola and 2nd Chalukya dynasty have ruled in this period followed by Delhi Sultanate and Bengal Sultanate.
Modern India
History of modern India starts from the 1st battle of Panipat in 1526 and beginning of Mughal dynasty rule in India. This period covers British empire in India up to the present day Republic India.
